It may only be in its second year, but the Academy Museum Gala is rapidly establishing itself as one of the best-dressed—and most-populated—red carpets out there. It shouldn't really come as a surprise. After all, the "Academy" in the museum's name is none other than that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, aka the organization that puts on the Oscars. It has a bit of pull in Hollywood and beyond; you might have heard.
The celebrities of the world sure did. This weekend, they descended en masse, gracing the red carpet with outfits ranging from relatively traditional (George Clooney, John Cho, Jay Ellis) to stylishly offbeat (Colman Domingo, Steve McQueen, Joe Jonas). The one thing they all have in common, of course, is that they looked fantastic. Lackluster awards shows, lingering pandemic anxiety, and underwhelming fashion choices have left more than a few of this year's red-carpet affairs feeling sapped of energy, like the whole trope might become a thing of the past. The Academy Museum Gala, though, is proof that there's still occasion for celebrities to dress to the nines and parade about for the cameras for awhile—and reason for those of us at home to pay attention.
