Whether bread is your go-to carb pick or an occasional guilty pleasure; whether you're Team Artisan Breads or Team Tarts and Pastries, no one would refuse freshly baked goods. Hey, even if you're a cake person, the formula isn't vastly different. Flour + Heat = Magic. While we love our staples at Tiong Bahru Bakery and exotic finds at Mr Holmes Bakehouse, here are more bakeries and cafes to add on to your ever-expanding list of local finds to try.
Sugar Toast
This Japanese-style flavoured milk bread with over 130 outlets in China is great for those who love thick cut, buttery slices. The bakes are supposedly made in a manner similar to croissants via meticulous dough pounding, but do not achieve that texture when toasted. Instead, you get a dense bite with subtle flavours. There's a fun variety including limited local special Kaya Pandan Cheese, and all swirly loaves use all-natural colouring and are handmade daily.
Sugar Toast is located at Wisma Atria #B1-48, Singapore 238877, with islandwide delivery available.

You can try an array of bestsellers in their signature box sets, which are available for delivery and self-collection.
Bakery Brera & Fine Foods is located at 8 Empress Road #01-05, Singapore 260008.
Balmoral Bakery

For something more old school, the OG of local bakes, which has been around since Singapore gained independence, gives you treats that date back to the '60s. Think buttercream cake, spicy puff pastries, pandan towel rolls and more of what nostalgia is made of, complete with equally retro packaging.
Balmoral Bakery is located at 105 Clementi Street 12 #01-06, Singapore 120105.
Boulangerie Asanoya
Hailing from Karuizawa, the Japanese bakery caters to the sweet-toothed with their range of cube loaves, super soft breads, and Turtle Matcha Pans. Not leaving out those who prefer their carbs savoury are their curry donuts (of 30 different spice blends!), French potato breads, and quiches. Do check out the spreads, dips, and oils exclusive to the bakery in their in-store cafes.
Boulangerie Asanoya is located at Paragon Mall #B1-K27, Singapore 238859; amongst other outlets islandwide.
Bread and Hearth
It's hard to resist the alluring display of breads at the cafe, or just to decide what to get. Excelling at traditional flavours, their Danish pastries and cinnamon buns earn their praise. The picture-perfect baguettes also carry all the best elements of the established French loaf with its solid crust and fluffy cross-section.
Bread and Hearth is located at 18 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089125 and 30 Earth Coast Road #02-27, Singapore 428751.
Firebake
Known for having their own woodfire oven and impressive sourdough, the Eastside hangout also serves up a mean brioche amongst other fresh bakes, thick pies and hearty dishes. If you're in the mood for a bit of everything, go for the bread platter. If you're feeling adventurous, we'll say the 4-spice chicken liver pate.
Firebake Woodfired Bakehouse and Restaurant is located at 237 East Coast Road, Singapore 428930.
Gokoku Japanese Bakery

If you like your bread chewy, Gokoku serves aromatic buns with texture that's doughy in the best way. From fragrant scones to mochi cheese, there are plenty of Japanese flavours to choose from. Bestseller namesake Gokoku Shichifuku Pan (a mixed grain bun made with Japanese brown rice flour, malt and oatmeal) comes with a crisp skin and an airy yet tender inside that we're pretty sure defies the physics of breadmaking.
Gokoku Japanese Bakery is located at Great World #B1-136, Singapore 237994 and Jurong Point Shopping Centre #B1-79, Singapore 648886.
Keong Saik Bakery
You'd likely have seen their famous cruffins (croissant-muffin portmanteau, because millennials can't just have one thing), and as much as we hate to jump on bandwagons, their beautifully flaky layers and generous fillings make the hype understandable. Recently reopened just three doors down with pristine interiors, all offerings including the Burnt Cheese cruffins (because burcheecruffin is too silly a portmanteau?) remain available for fans.
Keong Saik Bakery is located at 33 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089140.
Mother Dough
With consistently good bakes made with flour sourced from environmentally conscious grain millers—and yes, a mother dough all the way from Brooklyn, the halal bakery satisfies all pastry cravings. Highly-raved Almond Croissant aside, other items like the Sticky Pecan Bun and Lemon Drizzle Cake are not left behind in the spotlight. Do check out their weekend toasties specials that change every month.
Mother Dough is located at 749 North Bridge Road #01-01, Singapore 198717.
Wu Pao Chun

As the first flagship store of Taiwan's top bakery in Southeast Asia, its award-winning Red Wine Longan and Lychee Rose Royale might be what you want to try first. Breads are hefty both price and size wise, but the quality is worth the charge. Mochi lovers can also find bun centres inspired by glutinous rice balls in a range of flavours.
Wu Pao Chun is located at Capitol Piazza #01-19, Singapore 178905.
