Hey there. Welcome to our newest series on fancy-ass cocktails. We'll post the prettiest cocktails—from the beautiful to the most exaggerated—that you can try this weekend.
To start things off, we're featuring A Farewell to Arms from The Old Man SG, the sister bar to The Old Man HK that recently became the number one bar at this year's Asia's 50 Best Bars awards ceremony. Inspired by the writer, cat-enthusiast and lush, Ernest Hemingway, the bar doles out cocktails that asks the question, "what would Papa drink?" Which is funny because the man's instructions for his daiquiris are that it shouldn't contain any sugar and that it shouldn't be… uh, well fancy.
But look at this drink, A Farewell to Arms #1929. This is a simple looking cocktail is a butter fat-washed Bulldog Gin mixed with Cinzano 1757 Vermouth; an onion pearl lies at the bottom of the glass with nori dust crusted on the rim. How does it taste? Well, let's just say that it's far better than the fates of the characters from the book the drink is named after.
A Farewell to Arms retails for SGD17. This and many other excellent drinks are available at The Old Man SG, #01-04, 55 Keong Saik Road.
