There was Wolfenstein 3D, then Doom. After that Halo, Counter-Strike, Half-Life… but Borderlands reignited my interest in video game first-person shooters. Borderlands was irreverent, colourful cel-shade-like design and, most importantly, fun.
Now in its fourth and latest instalment, Borderlands 3 (the previous chapter was a prequel aptly titled, uh, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel) drops today with "best-in-class shooting", varied customisation, new characters and bigger and better guns.
But there's more than just the in-game play, look forward to free seasonal content updates; free raid-like events; four DLCs that come with an individual purchase or a 'season pass' and… the Borderlands Show? Huh.
Borderlands 3 is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
