After being plucked from relative obscurity to take over the creative reins at Bottega Veneta, Daniel Lee has revamped the luxury fashion house's aesthetic to one that's been compared to that of Phoebe Philo's Céline. It's not a surprise of course, given Lee's former position as Céline's director of ready-to-wear design. And with Céline no longer being the quiet luxe it once was, Lee has envisioned Bottega Veneta to fill up that position.
It is unfair to make a judgement based on the few collections we've seen so far. Yet, Bottega Veneta's new focus on craft, subtleties in design, and contemporary minimalism lends a vision that's missing from fashion's incredibly packed 'more-is-more' aesthetic.
Lee's debut autumn/winter 2019 runway collection featured strong, clean lines, set against a dark palette and textural accents. Based on the teaser image above, it seems like the spring/summer 2020 collection might see a similar range of application but perhaps with the addition of gold. Or maybe, a distortion of the house's iconic Intrecciato pattern as suggested by the wrapping?
