Even as physical fashion shows are slated for the upcoming schedules for the spring/summer 2021 womenswear show season, Burberry is charging ahead with its physical-meets-digital approach. As announced back in June, the Brit luxury fashion house is staging a physical runway show (with no guests in attendance) that can be viewed live online.
Chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci is set to take viewers out to the great British outdoors. Taking inspiration from Burberry's roots, specifically founder Thomas Burberry's inclination towards nature and the outdoors, Tisci is proposing that the show will be a way to bring “our community together in a creative experience that takes place within the beautiful, natural landscape of Britain.”
Additionally, it has just been revealed that German artist Anne Imhof had been enlisted to collaborate on the creative direction of the spring/summer 2021 show. Imhof is known for her installation works as well as endurance performances. In 2017's 'Faust', a large part of the performance was staged under a clear glass platform with the audience walking and congregating around 'caged' performers.
We don't know for sure what to expect, but what's for certain is that this show will not be the usual Burberry runway presentation that we've witnessed before.
