The application of perfumes is usually from the neck down to the human body, with perfume experts recommending to spritz the belly button(!). But in recent years, hair perfumes have been making subtle appearances on the grooming shelves and they are backed by science for its effectiveness.
As reported by The Observer, Sacha Mitic, co-founder of the Stockholm haircare brand Sachajuan, explained: “Using a fragrance in the hair is better for distribution than spraying it on your body. Hair has a far bigger surface than the body. If you compare the total surface of hair that is 20 centimetres long, it is 6 square meters (about 65 feet) compared to the skin that is only 1.5 square meters (about 16 square feet.) There is far more surface to work against odour, but also to distribute the scent to the surroundings. Maybe we should ask the question why are we using fragrance on the skin…” That's a debate for another day.
Groomers can look to Swedish cult perfume label Byredo, who recently unveiled Triplé Gagnant, a limited edition collection of miniature hair perfumes in two travel-friendly sets. Their hair perfumes are concocted from an in-house formula that not only imparts an attractive scent to the hair, but also creates a light, invisible shroud that's designed to nourish your locks.
