When adidas' Superstar model (then known as Supergrip) was introduced, it served as an unusual contender to Converse, the primary footwear of basketball. In the 80s, the model was modified for the American audience and is rebranded as Superstar. It found a foothold in the hip-hop community and the Superstar's fame was further cemented with RUN-DMC's "My Adidas.
The Superstar model would undergo several initiations and collaborations. Partnership with brands and personalities like A Bathing Ape, Sean Wotherspoon, Donald Glover and our very own, Limited Edt, has seen the Superstar through continued relevance. Then, along came LEGO.
In October 2020, adidas and LEGO announced a long-term creative partnership and has since dropped adidas silhouettes with LEGO accents to it. Pretty standard fare, right? But what really got our attention is a Superstar that's made out of LEGO bricks. It's a display set, which means you can't wear it… which is ironic given the prevalence of stepping-on-LEGO-bricks-with-bare-foot anecdotes out there.
The set comes in an adidas shoebox (a missed opportunity for LEGO to have us construct an adidas shoebox) and all the materials you need to build your adidas Originals Superstar. From the shell toe to the three-stripes and even shoe laces, your adidas x LEGO Superstar model comes as a US7.5 sizing.
While it would be better if the Superstar x LEGO set comes as a pair of shoes, you can only construct either the left or the right shoe (the set comes with 17 extra LEGO elements that allow you to either build the left or right shoe). If you want to customise it, you can pretty it up with loose bricks to truly make it your own.
LEGO adidas Originals Superstar 10282 model retails for SGD149.90 and is available at LEGO Certified Stores, adidas Originals store at Vivocity and adidas Singapore online.
