Every Wednesday we ask a creative or an artisan to share what music gets them going from dawn to dusk. This week (and as promised), local synth-electronic band Disco Hue revealed the soundtrack for their day.
The Singapore retro-inspired quartet recently made a comeback with a throwback pop single, 'Can't Be Mine'. This catchy tune will also be included in their upcoming debut album, The Yearbook, due June 2019.
To support this release, Lead vocalist Sherlyn Leo, keyboardist/vocalist Auzaie Zie, guitarist Rush Ang, and drummer Billy Chua will perform live at Ignite Music Festival (July 27), Shine Festival (August 5) and Baybeats (August 17). We have a hunch that more live dates will be added, so keep your eyes peeled on the band's Facebook page and awe at the band's psychedelic delivery of their music catalogue in the flesh.
Another heads up. An official music video for 'Cant' Be Mine' will drop on July 27 through Apple Music and Disco Hue’s official YouTube channel. The visual feast, directed by Zie and co-produced by all the band members, features the iconic Technicolor retro visuals that Disco Hue is known for.
1. Sher: ‘All Night Long (All Night)’—Lionel Richie
"I heard this song playing on Brooklyn 99 and just had to add it to my Spotify playlist immediately. I've been hooked on it ever since! It's the perfect song to perk me up in the mornings."
2. Billy: ‘Freedom’—Allen Stone
"This song has a good mix of groove and a positive attitude. It really helps me get myself together in the morning and prepare myself for the day."
3. Rush: ‘South by the River’—Tom Misch
"Recently got into Tom Misch. Such a good producer/songwriter. This song gets me into a good mood, to prepare for a long day ahead"
4. Zie: Not Enough (feat. THEY)—Lido
"Lido's been my inspiration since I discovered him in early 2015. He never seizes to surprise me all the time with his production. Which is why this song gets me every morning. It's groovy, full of attitude and gets me pumped to write new music throughout the day."
1. Sher: ‘Lose Your Love’—Mediocre Haircut Crew
"A real feel-good song to get me in the mood for the day's work. This song has been on repeat for a month, the hook is just so catchy! I can't get sick of it."
2. Billy: ‘Custer’—Slipknot
"This song gets my blood pumping to tackle any problems that might come my way. Really restarts my engine especially if it was a tough morning."
3. Rush: 'Cute without the 'e"—Taking Back Sunday
"This one's an oldie. I've recently seen them in the UK and they were awesome. This song always gets me pumped and re-energize myself"
4. Zie: Cruel—Snakehips, ZAYN
"I tend to do a lot of walking/driving in the day when I run errands, so this track is PURRFECT. I'm a super big fan of the production and ZAYN's vocals in it. Man, I just want to dance every time I hear this one. What an absolute bop."
1. Sher: ‘Cry Me A River’—Ella Fritzgerald
"I tend to think too much at night, and this song really helps me to relax and unwind. Ella just has a mysterious magnetic quality to her voice that keeps drawing me back to it. Just thinking about it makes me feel like listening to this song again."
2. Billy: 'Warm On A Cold Night' – Honne
"This song kinda ties up the whole day for me, especially as it has very good "bus ride home" feels. It keeps my mind calm as I reflect on the day."
3. Rush: ‘No Friend’—Paramore
"One of my favourite tracks off their new album [After Laughter] (which features a spoken word from Aaron Weiss from mewithoutyou). This soothes my mind and gets me inspired, especially at night when I have loads on my mind."
4. Zie: 'I Like U'—NIKI
"My nights are never the same each time. Some nights are quiet, some nights are rowdy and loud. But they all usually end the same way; me in bed, with this song on, candles. As an Indonesian girl recently signed to 88rising, she's really making waves everywhere. This one really shows anything is possible with a good song!"
