At the recent DC FanDome, we got a look at the upcoming Matt Reeves take of The Batman. We also have announcements of two upcoming video games: Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Developed by WB Games Montréal, Gotham Knight takes place in the an open world of Gotham city, where players can either play solo or in co-op mood. In Gotham Knights, Batman is dead (could be 'comic-book-dead', which means he's only dead if the franchise isn't making money) and charges Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin—all who have partnered with him in some capacity—to maintain order in Gotham in his absence.
This is an original story, wholly separated from Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series (WB Games Montréal's last project was Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to the Batman: Arkham series). Gotham Knights is scheduled for release in 2021 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.
Meanwhile, Rocksteady reveals Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, which will be released in 2022 on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC.
The trailer shows the Suicide Squad, consisting of Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang (why is the 'captain' sporting a sergeant chevron?), Deadshot and King Shark, on a mission. Their target? No prize for guessing but… its the Justice League. The play-field is far from the gritty streets of Gotham, this time, game developer, Rocksteady sets it in futuristic Metropolis (and it looks like its overrun with Brainiac's goons). It's a multiplayer third-person shooter and you can play solo or up to three players; each character comes with his or her own special abilities.
How will Suicide Squad stack up against Rocksteady's previous Batman: Arkham series? The trailer looks promising but we'll only know in two years time.
