Just last week, streaming service HBO MAX sent a mass email with subject line "Integration Test Email #1" to its subscribers, much to the confusion of the database. It then quickly took to their Twitter account to clarify the blunder, doing what any company would—blame it on the intern.
We mistakenly sent out an empty test email to a portion of our HBO Max mailing list this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience, and as the jokes pile in, yes, it was the intern. No, really. And we’re helping them through it. ❤️

Somehow, in a rare response that isn't fuelled by political correctness and rage, in fact quite the opposite; the Internet radiated waves of empathy. Using the #DearIntern hashtag, users shared their personal horror stories in solidarity. From cringe-worthy to downright funny, replies rallied support for the ultimate intern experience, including one from an infamous ex-White House intern. These are our favourite reactions.
In the first month of my new HR job with a major defense contractor, I sent out an email about shirt orders that included the division president and several corporate leaders.
Title of email: Your Shit is in the HR Office – Please Pick Up by COB

A PRIVATE MATTER
Dear Intern, as a young lawyer I proof read a legal brief and filed it with the court. I caught a typo and blindly used the global find and replace function. Pro tip: don't do that. My brief argued for the rights of "the panties." Not "the parties." All 50 pages of it. 🤦🏻♀️🩲🩲 https://t.co/PDJYMXuOlw

A LITTLE TOO PRIVATE
Dear Intern, I was using my desktop calendar to make a monthly note of when I started my menstrual period, but after several months I realized I was making that note on a calendar I shared with all of my colleagues company wide. I was 37 years old.

ANYONE ELSE WANTS TO SEE OFFICER DAKOTA TESTIFY?
Dear Intern, as a baby prosecutor I was in charge of subpoenaing witnesses. I sent a subpoena to Officer Dakota to testify. Officer Dakota was a dog. He did not testify but was a very good boy.

Dear Intern, when I was 25 I made a PDF assigning each employee to the Muppet they reminded me of the most. I meant to send it to my work friend, but I accidentally sent it to the entire company. My supervisor (Beaker) wanted to fire me, but the owners (Bert & Ernie) intervened. https://t.co/zMKvQ6nxjj

PROBABLY NOT EVEN AN INTERN
I heard someone once got their ship stuck in the Suez Canal creating a massive issue with world trade and product delivery. You'll be fine. ❤️

CAN YOU IMAGINE
Once I sent promotional emails to a client database and got the discount codes mixed up and cost the client about 15 grand. Still here. https://t.co/ChszcDB5jz

WHAT A SIDE EFFECT
Dear Intern, as a very young copywriter I once had to write a brochure about a prescription drug that "reduces mortality in patients," but it turns out I actually wrote that it "reduces morality in patients" and nobody caught it until 50,000 were printed.https://t.co/HrMqHIXhg0

WE'LL ALLOW THIS
Dear intern, I used to assist an executive who *demanded* filtered water every morning. I didn’t know how to work the filter — and never asked—so he unknowingly drank NYC tap water for months 😭 https://t.co/Ms27cysTSf

BUT OBVIOUSLY THIS ONE WINS
it gets better.
ps. don’t wear a beret for awhile, k?

"Integration Test Email #1" has gotten HBO more views than anything else they've produced since Game of Thrones ended… pic.twitter.com/SBjYGvbFWu

GREAT CONVERSATION STARTER
This will end up being the best lead in for all future interviews.
“Tell me something about yourself”
“Well there was the time I emailed a few million people on accident”

GOD WE REALLY HOPE NOT
Lol if it turns out the HBO Max email goof is a stunt for a new show called Integration Test Email then congrats to the marketing team
