Right on the heels of a very successful launch of the Air Jordan 1 OG Dior sneakers—a collaboration with Jordan Brand that saw more than five million people balloting for 13,200 pairs—Dior Men is about to showcase its spring/summer 2021 collection. And as with every collection under artistic director Kim Jones, collaborative partnerships are key.
Jones has revealed that Ghanian artist Amoako Boafo will be adding his touch to the spring/summer 2021 collection. Boafo is known for his contemporary portraits of Black figures—family and friends, as well as known icons—done in a mix of painting and collage. His method of adding on oils, acrylics or pastels with his fingers atop a painted canvas, creates striking highlights and textures, often on the faces of his subjects.
While we wait to discover how Jones has envisioned Boafo's works of art into a collection, the teaser image to the show (as seen on the header) points to a new iteration of the Dior Oblique motif. The usual serif font is substituted with a painterly effect that could potentially be seen on a number of Dior Men spring/summer 2021 pieces across ready-to-wear and accessories.
But enough of guessing. Watch the Dior Men spring/summer 2021 fashion feature that's been edited and soundtracked by video artist Chris Cunningham here.
