Some of its watches may look absolutely crazy but rest assured that Franck Muller is a brand that takes watchmaking very seriously. Quality finishing, handcraftsmanship, traditional techniques, and haut de gamme complications are classical features of all its timepieces, as is design creativity. Some of its most memorable timepieces are uncopiable icons like the Crazy Hours, Take Your Time, and the Retrograde Hours. Conceived through out-of-the-box thinking and equipped with ingenious micro-mechanics, these watches and more are why Franck Muller is also known as the Master of Complications.
Apart from case and movement production, Franck Muller also busies itself with dialmaking. And we all know the effect a beautiful dial has on our hearts. It is one of the few luxury watch brands with an in-house dialmaking facility. Located in an idyllic region of the Jura called Les Bois, literally meaning The Woods, this facility is where all Franck Muller dials are manufactured, finished, and decorated. Everything is done in a traditional manner especially the final steps of finishing and decorating. Dial painting, in particular, is an inimitable craft mastered by this manufactory.
From 8th to 14th June, Franck Muller will bring its dial painting expertise to Singapore for a weeklong pop-up event. Together with Watches of Switzerland, the event space at Paragon’s Orchard Lobby on Level 1 will demonstrate the various crafts and processes involved in dial production. Fans of the Vanguard and especially the Crazy Hours will get to see how much precision and dexterity goes into every timepiece.
At least 20 layers of lacquer goes onto each dial in order to achieve the exact colour tone envisioned by the brand. Each layer requires at least one hour to dry completely, so the process is as intricate as it is time-consuming. Those signature Franck Muller Art Deco numerals, too, are lovingly hand-painted with Luminova or coloured lacquer, making each dial a bona fine work of art.
Highlights of the show include the Crazy Hours 15th Anniversary Asia Exclusive, and the new Vanguard Lady Moon Phase collection, so there’s something for men and women.
