Paris Fashion Week Men's is often described as a period of time where people gather to enjoy the charm of what fashion has to offer for the season. As the sun sets on another series of spring/summer 2022 menswear shows, we are left with our memories of the innovative designs and attention to detail that have been showcased. When it comes to reinventing the perception of menswear, this particular fashion week did just that.
Creative director for both JW Anderson and Loewe, Jonathan Anderson pointed us towards the direction of ease and comfort for spring/summer 2022. Both brands showcased oversized knitwear, skin-baring short shorts as well as loungewear with neon colourway options. The vibrancy of the pieces wove themselves perfectly into the summer essentials for those who prefer a pops of colours in their wardrobe.
Brands such as Louis Vuitton, Dior Men and Vetements went big with bold silhouettes and colours. The season saw the return of classic two-piece suits with exaggerated shoulders and tone-on-tone colourways, which brought a sense of polish and sophistication to an otherwise laid-back spring/summer 2022 season.
Leather bags were at the forefront with brands such as Hermès and Jil Sander interpreting the classic carryall. While Hermès chose a black leatherwork rendition with a graphic skateboard base, Jil Sander went characteristically minimal with versatile handheld or sling options.
Utilitarian workwear also found itself as a point of reference, through Lemaire’s boxy-fit shirts and 1017 ALYX 9SM’s jacket options, while brands such as Rick Owens opted for a body-baring loosely crafted knit approach.
All in all, Paris Fashion Week Men's was an all-encompassing audio-visual experience with the idea of escapism at its core. And as the world slowly recovers from the ongoing global pandemic, we're more than thankful for this temporary reminder of better days ahead.
