If you have never heard of Houston Rocket point guard, Russell Westbrook, here is a quick introduction—he was the NBA's Most Valuable Player in the 2016-17 season; the first player to average a triple-double for three years in a row; as well as being a two-time scoring champion. Even with a record-setting, and hall of fame career in the bag, Westbrook is more than an athlete, but a verifiable style icon off the hardwood.
It was his unique sense of style that drew Swedish label, Acne Studios to tap Westbrook to front their spring/summer 2019 campaign. “I have always been interested in the connection between sportswear and ready-to-wear, the dynamic between them especially. We chose Russell for a collaboration as he is an athlete we admire for many reasons,” says Jonny Johansson, creative director of Acne Studios.

The duo has teamed up for the autumn/winter 2019 season with a capsule collection designed by both Westbrook and Acne Studios. It is not unusual for athletes to have a hand in designing capsule collections, but few have reached the level of collaboration between Westbrook and Acne Studios. The collection goes deeper than just a curation of Acne Studios’ range of key products.
When asked to expand on the collaboration, Westbrook said, “Acne Studios is already an unbelievable brand that speaks for itself so I’m just happy and blessed to have a collection with them and to be able to show my creative side." The collection melds both Westbrook’s off-court style as well as Acne Studios’ aesthetic into an elevated take on denim pieces. Think oversized short sleeve shirts, trousers, shorts, vests and the sporty windbreaker all rendered in denim. The collection comes in two colourways—washed denim and a jade colourway.
The Russell Westbrook x Acne Studio capsule collection is available at selected Acne Studio stores around the world.
