It has only been under a year since Burberry's chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci, debuted a new monogram for the British fashion house. As an homage to founder Thomas Burberry, Tisci created—with the help of British art director and graphic designer Peter Saville—an interlocking 'TB' pattern, which was also inspired by 20th-century motifs that Tisci unearthed within Burberry's archives.
The Thomas Burberry monogram was first designed in three distinct colours: red, white and a shade of honey that's reminiscent of Burberry's signature cotton gabardine trench coats. Now, Tisci is launching the first Monogram collection, featuring an all-new iteration of the monogram.
The refresh features the Thomas Burberry monogram depicted in three different shades of brown. Then, there's the addition of a three-coloured stripe in black, white and red as accents on selected pieces of the Monogram collection; a bold contrast and gives a sportier vibe to the collection.
Available for both men and women, and spanning across ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, the Monogram collection is quite comprehensive. Since Tisci's appointment, he has made the conscious decision to cater to four different characters that Burberry champions—the boy, the girl, the gentleman, and the lady—all portrayed in this particular campaign by model Gigi Hadid. With the Monogram collection, each character is heavily tied to the clothes and accessories that they are associated to. This means that there's everything from characteristically boyish staples such as a hoodie, a baseball cap and a bum bag, to more sartorial-ready pieces such as a nylon car coat and a shirt that's completely decorated with the Thomas Burberry monogram.
Aside from the clothes worn by Hadid in the campaign, the collection will also include cotton-piqué polo shirts, trackpants, bomber jackets, sunglasses, and even a non-slip yoga mat that's created in collaboration with Liforme. Basically, you'd find everything you'd need in Burberry's Monogram collection, and they're all designed with the interlocking TB pattern.
