The Met Gala might be over, but that doesn't mean it's the end of the red carpet season. The Cannes Film Festival is known for its long standing ovation given to exceptional films, and the longest ovation this year went to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which stars A-list actors Leonardo Dicaprio and Brad Pitt (the applause went on for a total of seven minutes). While the film is no doubt deserving of it (unlike the ending of Game of Thrones but do not even get me started), seven minutes feels a bit excessive, no? It is too long by any count.
Maybe that's why these men kept their stylish outfits sleek, classy and to the point. If there is a lesson to take home from these guys, it’s that less is definitely more. Take Brad Pitt for example, a simple fitted polo-shirt, worn over a plain white T-shirt, slim navy trousers, sunglasses and a flat cap. That was probably the most boring sentence I have ever written, but hey, when you carry yourself the way he does—with an equal amount of gravitas and paired-back elegance—that's all the embellishments you need. If that doesn't hit the ball out of the park, you have Elton John, the king of Camp, in a navy suit and only one brooch. We rest our case.
