Dior Men is pulling all the stops with its fall 2020 collection. If you recall, the collection was shown in Miami last year, and was marked by the highly coveted Air Jordan 1 OG Dior sneakers. The main bulk of the collection was done in collaboration with streetwear and surfing legend Shawn Stussy. Taking reference from Stussy's legacy in the surfing arena, artistic director Kim Jones worked with him to create Dior's first-ever surfboard.
Featuring the super graphic Dior signature collage print that's apparent in a lot of the pieces in the fall 2020 collection (and also decorated the entirety of the show space), the Dior Men and Shawn Stussy surfboard is in the iconic gun shape. In a press statement, Stussy expresses his desire to "create a streamlined board with elongated curves and subtle house colours that seems to dance on the ocean."
While the front is completely filled with the collage print, the back is kept clean in Dior Grey. It's also embellished with Stussy's interpretation of the Dior's iconic bee logo, and individually numbered up to 100. Yes, that's how limited-edition the surfboard is; an eighth of what's produced of the Air Jordan 1 OG Dior sneakers.
Let's face it, you may not even care that the surfboard was finished in France using state-of-the-art technology to ensure optimum surf performance. Because with an exquisite piece like this, the only waves it really deserves are from your guests as they bid farewell after viewing it in its enclosed glass case in your home. It's also retailing for SGD18,000—you definitely do not want this to get smashed into pieces by actual, unpredictable ocean waves.
If you don't see the point of owning a limited-edition Dior Men and Shawn Stussy surfboard, here are five other pieces by luxury fashion brands that you typically wouldn't expect from them.
Triomphe canvas and leather perfume case, by CELINE (SGD9,200 each)
What better way to top off your collection of CELINE's haute parfumerie, than to store and display them in a case (under lock-and-key, of course) designed to fit five 100ml bottles at once? Extra luxurious scents deserve only the best.
LV2 duck figurine, by Louis Vuitton (SGD1,810 each)
Louis Vuitton's latest collaboration with Japanese streetwear hero Nigo has most recently dropped its first wave of pieces from the LV2 collection. And that includes this curious, little duck figurine that can be used as anything from a paperweight to an ornament to hype up your workstation at home.
Porcelain plates, by Versace (SGD140 for 18cm, and SGD460 for 30cm)
Never run out of fancy plates for your guests ever again with this range by Versace. With the SGD18,000 you save from not buying the Dior Men and Shawn Stussy surfboard, you'd have enough to serve your finest home-cooked meals to 30 friends and family members on ornate porcelain plates. Bland food? No one will even bother complaining when the plates are this fancy.
Metal sunglasses, by RIMOWA (SGD450 each)
We're all familiar with RIMOWA and its incredibly hard-wearing luggage. The luxury travel brand has now officially expanded into the eyewear space with sunglasses that are built with the same quality and design aesthetics in mind. Think signature aluminium ridges and smooth, clean lines.
Metal water bottle, by Loewe Paula's Ibiza x SIGG (approximately SGD345 via MATCHESFASHION)
Count on Loewe to make drinking water from a reusable bottle that much more luxurious. As part of its Paula's Ibiza collection, this metal water bottle is printed with the collection's mermaid motif and is topped with the fashion house's masterfully crafted leather strap. Drink up, folks.
