Italian luxury fashion house Ermenegildo Zegna is no stranger to collaborations. They have ranged from a longstanding partnership with Maserati—creating custom interiors, as well as an array of leather goods, accessories and ready-to-wear—to the most recent collaboration with Leica that was first seen during the autumn/winter 2020 runway show earlier this year.
The collaborations are there but they have been rather niche and tend to be extensions of the Ermenegildo Zegna lifestyle beyond fashion. They've also been rather quiet; it's simply not in fashion house's DNA to be buzzy. But perhaps, that's about to change.
In its first major collaboration with a fashion brand, Ermenegildo Zegna has revealed a full collection designed in partnership with American brand Fear of God. While the latter might be more known for its streetwear-infused designs, the similarities lie in the luxurious appeal that both brands take into consideration when it comes to design.
Both Alessandro Sartori of Ermenegildo Zegna and Fear of God's Jerry Lorenzo express mutual respect and admiration for each other. "The collection speaks to our audience just as it does Jerry Lorenzo’s, but we believe it can also appeal to a new client, thanks to the mix of Zegna’s impeccable tailoring and Fear of God’s concept of laid-back luxury. We have worked with great balance, without our egos ever surpassing one another, to create a unique new wardrobe," Sartori says in a press statement.
The result is a collection that's meant to be part of your wardrobe for years, transcending fluctuating fashion trends and seasons—it's referred to as 'a new grammar of style'. For starters, the collection features an easy, neutral palette of greys, vicuna and taupe. Volume plays a key design trope in the collection with coats designed with a one-size-fits-all concept, and luxurious tailoring in relaxed silhouettes that look as comfortable as they are excellently crafted. It's an extensive offering too, with everything from denim jeans to Henley tees.
What's even better is that the collection isn't strictly for us boys too. As explained by Lorenzo: "I design menswear but I always keep a woman in mind; I really love the way women wear men’s clothing." We definitely have to concur.
The Fear of God exclusively for Ermenegildo Zegna collection is slated to be available from September 2020 in select Ermenegildo Zegna boutiques, zegna.com, as well as select specialty stores internationally. View the complete collection in the gallery above.
