In this two-part fashion editorial celebrating the extremes of beauty, the sequel takes a darker turn. In the first episode, we witness the exploration of the beauty that lies on the surface, with the savagery lurking underneath it. Continuing the theme of the triptych by Hieronymus Bosch, this time the monsters surface to serve as a point of inspiration for the autumn/winter 2019 season. But what are monsters? We like to think of them as misunderstood creatures.
Fashion editor Eugene Lim, together with photographer Ronald Leong, make-up artist Sha Shamsi, and hairstylist Fadhi Rahaman, brings to life the creature that stalks these pictures, with most unconventional pieces from the season. Dark and severe. Sharp and unorthodox. Beauty and whimsy. A blend of pretty and grotesque, or is the result pretty grotesque?
Either way, there is no need to fear the unfamiliar; embrace the monsters not fight them. In the words of Frankenstein's monster, "beware, for I am fearless and therefore powerful". Be fearless in choices, and watch yourself be powerful.
