It's almost a year ago now since Fendi's spring/summer 2020 menswear runway presentation in Milan. Flanked by greens all around the garden within Villa Reale, it was a masterful combination of Silvia Venturini Fendi's love of gardening, and the season's guest collaborator, film director Luca Guadagnino's cinematic vision.
It was quite like those idyllic scenes of a rural northern Italy as portrayed in Guadagnino's beloved 2017 film Call Me By Your Name—carefree and poetic.
While it was mostly the clothes in precious fabrications and laser-cut techniques that drew attention on the runway, we now have even closer looks at the shoes and accessories that punctuate the collection. If the ready-to-wear portion of Fendi's spring/summer 2020 menswear collection were the blooming plants in a spectrum of colours and silhouettes, these accessories can be likened to the tools that make each look cohesive and luxuriously accented.
Fendi's spring/summer 2020 men's accessories include sneakers done in collaboration with MoonStar. If you're unfamiliar, MoonStar is a Japanese shoe brand that's been around since 1873 and known for its rubber-soled creations. The Fendi x MoonStar sneakers are crafted with a canvas upper and fixed with chunky rubber soles that are as comfortable as they are protective (and quite possibly the only range you can actually do some gardening in).
For something a tad fancier, there's an all-white sneaker decorated with laser-cut sides that spell out 'FENDI', reminiscent of the laser-cut motifs that were heavily used in the spring/summer 2020 collection. And if you're looking for a small crossbody bag that is roomier than it actually looks, Fendi's Flap bag is an expandable iteration thanks to it's zipped construction. Clever.
