When it comes to the future of fashion this side of the decade, Marine Serre is one of the brands that's on the forefront. It's in the way the brand communicates its aesthetic and intent. Aside from being known for its now-iconic moon print and insignia, Marine Serre is also a proponent of sustainable fashion, often creating parts of its collections from recycled and upcycled materials and fabrics.
And if the brand's video presentation (it's quite literally a short film) of its spring/summer 2021 collection is any indication, Marine Serre is all about the future.
It's no wonder then that the brand partnered up with South Korean eyewear maestro Gentle Monster—an equally futuristic brand—for a collection of sunglasses for spring/summer 2021. The result is a series of truly out-of-this-world yet easily wearable pieces. The Gentle Monster x Marine Serre collaboration is scheduled to drop in two parts, with the first featuring fresh takes on classic aviators and rectangular frames.
The VISIONIZER series offers two futuristic silhouettes but approached in two different ways. VISIONIZER I is an updated aviator with sharp edges and lines brought about by its thin metallic frame. The Marine Serre crescent moon logo is front and centre, connecting the two tinted, visor-like lenses. The VISIONIZER II adopts a similar aerodynamic curvature as the VISIONIZER I but done in a wrap-around acetate frame. Taking inspiration from eyewear typical of professional cyclists, VISIONIZER II is the sportiest of the two, with contrasting lenses as well as the bold addition of the Marine Serre logo in silver on each temple.
And with such a futuristic collection, the packaging is just as unique. Each Gentle Monster x Marine Serre eyewear comes in a portable zipped case that comes affixed with a Marine Serre chain—a detail that's apparent in the brand's spring/summer 2021 collection.
