This year's edition of the Grammy Awards was rife with drama even before the show started. There's the creative dispute between Ariana Grande (who ended up winning an award for 'Best Pop Vocal Album') and producers of the show, resulting in the former refusing to perform and attend the show. Then there's Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino who were approached to perform (all three were nominated) but declined due to the Grammys having a history of failing to honour black artists. And lastly, the controversial choice of Jennifer Lopez headlining a tribute to Motown, a historic music label formed by African-Americans.
But what's an award show without some drama, right?
At the red carpet though, there were very little dramatic silhouettes and standout high fashion moments. Out of the big four award shows—the rest being the Emmys, the Oscars and the Tony Awards—it's usually at the Grammys that celebrities have a little bit more room for extravagance and creativity. Need we remind you of Lady Gaga's red carpet appearance as an egg?
Clear standouts at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards include Cardi B in an archive Mugler gown inspired by 'The Birth of Venus', Leon Bridges' tan outfit by Bode, and Post Malone's pink and studded custom suit. While the rest weren't as visually outstanding, it's the combination of the right accessories, impeccable fit and subtle details that make them winners in our book.
