Matthew M Williams of Alyx Studio is no stranger to the idea of collaborations—from his teaming up with Nike, Guidi, Moncler, Mackintosh as well the uber-successful partnership with Kim Jones at Dior Men. While Williams produces great collections on his own, when teaming up with another creative partner, the work takes on a whole new dimension. If you are looking for a label that embodies testament to the ethos of 'two is better than one', look no further than William's.
For this next great collab, Williams teams up with American streetwear legend, Stüssy on a denim collection. Stüssy is no slouch in the collaboration game either, their recent work on Nike's Air Zoom Spiridon Cage 2 was a bright spot amidst these uncertain times.
This is not the first time the duo has worked together, dropping a small, but formidable capsule collection featuring garment-dyed eco-cotton T-shirt and hiking boot, as well as the recent Dior Men autumn collection that featured Shawn Stussy as the guest artist. For their latest collection, they wanted to dedicate it their Californa roots.
For the sophomore effort, titled 'California Cotton', the collection features Californian cotton, that is weaved into denim by luxury fabric purveyor, Loro Piana. The collection features oversized chore jackets, work trousers, an apron dress, as well as two graphic-heavy cotton long-sleeved tees. On the surface the collection might look simple, it but is the small details that make it shine—the fussy silhouette, using Stüssy signature font on Matthew M Williams, multi-functional pockets and our personal favourite, the selvedge witMh 'Loro Piana Denim Flower' embroidered on it.
The collection is available on both Stüssy and Alyx Studio's website.
