Following the success of ‘Made in California’ and ‘Vive La France’ capsule collections, luxury online men's style retailer Mr Porter has their eyes set on Japan for their third edition of the city-inspired capsule. While Japanese fashion has been synonymous with the holy trinity of Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto and Issey Miyake, the scene has taken leaps and bounds since the trio's debut in the 1980s. With that in mind, Mr Porter will be teaming up with 15 Japanese designers who are making waves on the menswear scene to launch the 'Japan Edit'.
And what a capsule it is with brands the likes of AMBUSH®, Blue Blue Japan, Kapital, Needles (a favourite of A$AP Rocky), Neighborhood, TakahiroMiyashita TheSoloist, and Wacko Maria x Fragment—creating a combined total of 122 pieces from ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories. It's hard to pick a favourite from the collection, so we defer to Mr Porter's senior buyer, Daniel Todd, who spearheaded this project.
"I was very excited when I saw the samples of the Kapital patchwork bandana jacket. That’s a style that always sell-outs instantly and they have redone them especially for us as part of this project."
"Neighborhood is a brand we have carried for a long time and it was great to work with Neighborhood again on an exclusive collection, their spider web shirt is a definitely going to be a hit."
"Needles is a brand that was new to us for SS19 and it’s great to have them involved in this. If demand within the MR P team is a barometer, then their exclusive tracksuits are going to go quickly."
