As the US opens up and regains some form of normalcy, it's back to live, in-person award shows once again. The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards made its return to the format at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, right in the middle of New York Fashion Week and a day before this year's Met Gala.
That could only mean that there were bound to be some serious fashion chops on display on the MTV VMAs red carpet. We may have said this a couple of times throughout the years, but this year's MTV VMAs provided some of the best and most daring menswear looks yet.
Troye Sivan got first dips on Fendi's spring/summer 2022 menswear collection with a cropped blazer paired with shorts in head-to-toe black, showing off enviable abs. In a somewhat out-of-character sartorial move, Ed Sheeran surprised with a printed Versace number. Billy Porter—ever the boundary-breaking statement-maker—turned up in full silver suiting accentuated with peak lapels and power shoulders. And then there was Lil Nas X who appeared dripping in purple embellished Versace, baring shoulders and draping a rather modest train.
