Netflix's Stranger Things returns for its third season this July 4th. To celebrate, Stranger Things has teamed up with Nike for a capsule that pays tribute to all things 80s. But don't call it collaboration—think of it more as an opportunity to own a piece of the wardrobe worn by the charismatic cast.
Instead of going down the path of logo-mania inspired pieces with the Stranger Things logo plastered all over the capsule collection—or leveraging off the horrors of the Demogorgon—Nike took inspiration from the time period of the third season M. All the sneakers that are part of the collection—like the Cortez, Blazer and Tailwind—are sneakers that were actually available in the year 1985; the year in which the events of the latest season takes place.
But more than just putting out historically accurate sneakers, the capsule is a pleasant departure from the trend of bulky conceptual sneakers (such as the Sacai x Nike collaboration or the futuristic Raf Simons x Adidas Ozweego). The first drop is on 27 June and will feature sneakers in the colourway of green and orange from Hawkins High, with our favourite being the minimal Blazer and Cortez silhouette. The school colours also extend to the apparel: hoodies, T-shirts and caps channel 1980s physical-ed classes as well as the Tiger mascot motif.
A second drop from the collection called the ‘OG pack’ will feature the same line up of sneakers, but interpreted in red, white and blue colourways (‘cause this is America) and features the 1985 year on the tab of the sneaker plus a special firework display sock liner.
Simply put: owning a piece of TV history has never been easier.
