As far as special editions go, Nomos Glashutte and Singapore retailer The Hour Glass have got the creative formula down pat. This would be the third time both brands collaborate on special edition watches. In 2017 there was the Zurich Weltzeit Red Dot Edition offering the world time function. In 2018, back by popular demand, this collaboration produced the simple but very sophisticated Tangente Red Dot.
Both times, the watches were completely sold out, with salmon dial models raking in the greatest amount of interest from collectors. Thus this year’s pieces should be just as, if not even more, successful.
Like the afore-mentioned models, the Tangente Neomatik Red Dot Limited Editions for 2019 is discreetly marked with a little red dot (at six o’clock). The multifaceted Tangente Neomatik 39 is a best-seller at Nomos Glashutte since its introduction over 25 years ago.
Correspondingly, these new renditions proffer dial variations in silver-plated white, lacquered midnight blue, the fervently desired galvanised salmon, and a new galvanised ruthenium
Where the salmon and white models will be graced with an antiquated Chinese oracle bone script, the ones in ruthenium and midnight blue feature Hindu-Arabic numerals.
This makes the collection extra diverse, very thoughtful, and truly worthy of our bicentennial celebrations.
What else is different?
The watches are slightly larger than the 37mm 2018 models, so that’s great news for those looking for a more generous fit on the wrist.
Case in point, at 38.5mm, they allow the German watch company to implement a self-winding Calibre DUW 3001 movement—as opposed to the manually-wound Alpha in last year’s collection.
In spite of a bigger and thicker movement, however, the watch maintains good proportions, sitting very nicely on most wrists thanks to those signature angled lugs.
This brings us to the most attractive and yet potentially the most dreaded aspect of the collection. It is limited to just 200 pieces in total, which means there's just 50 in each colour. We cannot stress more emphatically that this is not something you want to hem and haw about. In fact, this is exactly the sort of watch that will be snapped up faster than you can say its name in full.
The Nomos Glashutte Tangente Neomatik Red Dot Limited Edition 2019 is retailing for a very pocket-friendly $4,850. Buy it online here or head on down to your nearest The Hour Glass and Watches of Switzerland store.
