It's hard to keep track of new sneaker releases; there's more than one dropping every month. And once you've missed one, you'd have to resort to the resale market to stand a chance of getting one.
Last week, JW Anderson and Converse released its latest spring/summer 2019 iteration of the Run Star Hike in black. This highly anticipated drop was the second of the season—the first featured an all-white upper—and is effectively a platform version of the classic Converse Chucks. The distinctly exaggerated EVA midsole is topped off with a red star right at the heel, and fitted with chunky, serrated outsoles.
The Converse x JW Anderson Run Star Hike sneakers (both the black and white variations) are completely sold out on the different platforms that they were originally released on. However, in Singapore, the black iteration will launch exclusively at Pedder on Scotts this 25 April 2019, Thursday—a second opportunity for those of us who missed out on last week's wide release.
If a pair of platform sneakers (why would you not want extra height, hater?) is not something you'd see yourself in, here are some other sneakers that you might want to consider. If you're still on the fence about the practicality of the Converse x JW Anderson Run Star Hike, scroll through the gallery above to get some outfit inspirations from those who have copped a pair or two.
1.82 pairs of the Superga x Disney Comics sneakers (SGD109.90 each)
A Disney collaboration never gets old. This particular one with Superga takes on a more comical approach, with trompe-l'œil touches that make it seem as though the sneakers were ripped off from a Mickey Mouse comic strip.
1.4 pairs of the Donald Glover Presents Nizza sneakers (SGD140 each)
Donald Glover is one busy man. For his first collaborative effort with adidas Originals, Glover explores the familiarity of worn-in sneakers across three classic adidas styles—the Nizza, the Continental 80 and the Lacombe. The Nizza is the simplest of the three, and is distinguished by the frayed details at the tongue and side seams.
0.84 pair of the Puma x Ader Error RS-X sneakers (SGD239 each)
There's quite a bit going on with this particular pair, yet somehow, it's not awfully distracting or chaotic. Much like Ader Error's penchant for attention-grabbing colours and streetwear stylings, the reinterpreted RS-X is your answer to a sneaker that toes the fine line between looking ugly, and just like a regular sneaker. This is one oddly beautiful pair.
0.72 pair of the Nike x AMBUSH® Air Max180 sneakers (SGD279 each via Dover Street Market Singapore)
A combination of Nike's Air Max 180 and Air Zoom Flight, AMBUSH's version is very much futuristic and badass. The collaboration is available in two colourways, and will launch exclusively at Dover Street Market Singapore (in-store and online) this 26 April 2019, Friday from 11am. Time to camp in front of multiple mobile devices.
0.4 pair of the ASICS x Kiko Kostadinov GEL-SOKAT INFINITY sneakers (SGD499 each via Dover Street Market Singapore)
Notice the unusually high top line on one side? It's a design element that's taken from the ASICS TSUNAHIKI109 model that's used for tug of war. The asymmetric shape gives added support to the ankle, and we all know that any added support to our sneakers is always welcomed. And it helps that the sneakers are in high-shine colourways too.
