And just like that, the first award season for the new decade is over. But how better to draw the season to a close than with the 92nd Academy Awards? Of course, while the main focus of Hollywood's most highly-anticipated night is to celebrate artistic and technical excellence in the film industry—such as ‘Parasite’ directed by Bong Joon-ho, which has made Oscar history as the first foreign movie to grab the Academy’s most prestigious award, Best Picture—we are all equally excited to catch sight of the best red-carpet looks.
Oscar nominees and guests took to the red carpet in all manner of haute couture gowns and tuxedos, with sustainability as a leitmotif. Saoirse Ronan gave a subtle nod with a Gucci gown that had a peplum detail made from discarded satin scraps; Kaitlyn Dever rocked a custom-made gown by Louis Vuitton, crafted entirely of ethically sourced and sustainable materials; and Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Oscar for Best Actor, wore the same Stella McCartney tuxedo that he’s worn throughout the award season, as a pledge to save the planet.
