We spend so much time on our iPhones (for better or for worst), that they have become extensions of us. And naturally, what we invest so much time on, we'd want them to last for, at the very least, a decent amount of time. It's not difficult to get an iPhone case that banks on both style and function too. There's a smorgasbord of stylish, protective cases to choose from—design purists can opt for clear cases that don't distract from the iPhone's silhouette, for example—including from the realm of luxury.
RIMOWA has finally made its Aluminium Groove iPhone cases available in Singapore. Designed for the iPhone XR, X/XS and XS Max models, the RIMOWA Aluminium Groove cases take reference from the luggage brand's iconic aluminium luggage cases—the same material, featuring the same grooved design that's apparent in all of its travel offerings. The phone case provides an all-round protection, including the bottom of the iPhone, which often gets neglected by certain designs. If you're concerned about the weight, the case is actually incredibly light and doesn't add any significant weight to your iPhone.
There is one caveat though. Because of the aluminium construction, the RIMOWA Aluminium Groove case does not support wireless charging; a very slight limitation, to be honest. But the best thing is, it's not priced incredibly steep for a luxury iPhone case. At SGD140 across all sizes, RIMOWA's iPhone case option also comes with a two-year global warranty. Sweet.
At the moment, the RIMOWA boutiques in Singapore only stocks the silver iteration of the cases. The rose gold in aluminium and black in leather versions have yet to arrive.
We love the RIMOWA Aluminium Groove iPhone case for its design and the price. And also how it's definitely a cheaper alternative to the personal luggage cases that's done in collaboration with Dior Men, which is slated for release in 2020. If you want a piece of RIMOWA in your hand, this is it.
Curious to see how the case stacks up against other luxury fashion options out there? Here are five other iPhone cases you'd want to consider.
Logo-stripe iPhone XS Max rubber phone case by Prada (approximately SGD350 each via MatchesFashion.com)
Available in multiple colour combinations, the case features Prada's signature triangular logo as well as the sporty stripe design. The rubber construction is also a dependable protective layer.
Lambskin iPhone XS Max case by CELINE by Hedi Slimane (SGD485 each)
The Anneli Henriksson 'Telepathic Love' print is printed on luxurious leather and is a great pop of colour for those who prefer a little bit more than just a brand name. Groovy, almost psychedelic prints are also very Hedi Slimane.
Intrecciato nappa iPhone X/XS case by Bottega Veneta (SGD640 each)
With newly appointed creative director Daniel Lee, Bottega Veneta's signature Intrecciato weave is blown up larger than ever; no branding needed.
Eye Trunk with strap for iPhone X/XS by Louis Vuitton (SGD1,910 each)
If the RIMOWA Aluminium Groove iPhone case is the shrunken version of a RIMOWA luggage, the Eye Trunk is Louis Vuitton's slightly smaller Petite Malle bag. A trunk for your iPhone? Amazing.
Dior Oblique plexiglass pouch by Dior Men (SGD3,600 each)
To be fair, this plexiglass pouch by Dior Men isn't specifically for iPhones, but it can fit one. Visualise your RIMOWA-protected iPhone within the Dior Oblique-printed plexiglass pouch—delicious.
