We can't say that we didn't see this coming. The RIMOWA Personal case that made its official debut on the Daniel Arsham-conceptualised runway of Dior Men's spring/summer 2020 collection, is soon to be part of RIMOWA's permanent collection. And if you recall, the demand for the crossbody bag—what's essentially a mini RIMOWA luggage case—had many putting down their names on waitlists way beyond the official launch date.
The RIMOWA Personal case stays true to the original Dior and RIMOWA Personal case albeit with some subtle changes. While the latter was crafted in RIMOWA's iconic aluminium, this latest iteration will be done in polycarbonate instead to mark the brand's 20th anniversary of its first polycarbonate suitcase. The straps that secure the case as well as the detachable crossbody strap are both crafted in leather, but of course, do not bear the Christian Dior branding; they're expertly match with the interior of each RIMOWA Personal case.
Other specifications and design details remain. They include the interior space that consists of two open compartments separated with a central zipped pocket designed with three card slots. There's ample space for one's essentials and the hardshell construction ensures that they're kept safe and secure.
With the RIMOWA Personal case is crafted in polycarbonate, the colours available for this launch are reflective of the latest polycarbonate Essential luggage collection. The Black and White glossy variations are set to be permanent fixtures of the series, while the Desert Rose and Cactus colours are specific to this season.
And thankfully, they're about half of the retail price of the Dior and RIMOWA Personal cases at SGD1,750 each.
The RIMOWA Personal case is part of the brand's continued efforts to move away from being a solely travel brand. RIMOWA has produced lifestyle accessories the likes of iPhone cases and most recently expanded into eyewear with a range of sunglasses. With the RIMOWA Personal case becoming part of its permanent repertoire, it's a signal that the brand is set to expand on the meaning of travel, especially during this time of restricted international travels.
The RIMOWA Personal case will be available in RIMOWA boutiques worldwide from 3 December 2020.
