What do late artists Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat have to do with boxing? Nothing; at least not what one would expect. In 1985, photographer Michael Halsband was asked by Basquiat (after meeting him and Warhol at a private dinner) to shoot a series of images shot in the style of a boxing match poster. The images were to be used for a new show that the two artists were working on. Basquiat himself was fascinated by boxers, often featuring capturing them in his paintings.
Similarly, there's no obvious connection between Saint Laurent and Everlast—one deals with luxury fashion that has time and time again ventured into the lifestyle space, while the other is a common fixture in boxing and mixed martial arts. But perhaps the similarity lies in that they're both heavyweights in their own industries.
Inspired by the aforementioned photographs by Halsband, Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello has worked with Everlast in creating an exclusive series of boxing paraphernalia. They're all sleekly designed and stamped with Saint Laurent's branding, plus coupled with Everlast's technical know-how in the arena.
The Saint Laurent x Everlast collection consists of boxing handwraps that are available in black or white, a pair of boxing gloves made from high-grade genuine full-grain leather, satin boxing shorts, and protective headgear that's padded all around for actual protection. In addition to gears that'll help you score punches in protective comfort, the collection also features a punching bag crafted in high-grade leather and designed to withstand those practise kicks and punches for a very long time.
We're not certain you'll be able to survive a match decked out in the entire Saint Laurent x Everlast kit (that's all down to actual skills, we reckon), but at least you'll go out in style.
The Saint Laurent x Everlast collection is available exclusively at Saint Laurent Rive Droite.
