The Saint Laurent fall/winter 2019 collection is Anthony Vaccarello’s most confident offering yet. That is not a slight on his previous work for the house; Vaccarello has always been a great custodian of the legacy that the legendary Yves Saint Laurent left behind. But while we have seen hints of his ethos in his previous five collections, this offering sees him masterfully melding his aesthetic with Saint Laurent’s into one concise and cohesive collection.
Vaccarello has woven in references from the 80s (the height of Yves Saint Laurent’s prowess) by showcasing the house’s sharp tailoring, but juxtaposed it with the sensual and fluid lines that he is known for.
However, where the collection truly shines—both metaphorically and literally—is through the use of glow-in-the-dark neons and reflective fabrics. Highlights include sequinned camp-collar tops, metallic pinstriped shirting, and an embroidered silver bomber jacket.
