It’s official! Salmon pink is both the hottest and coolest colour you could wear on your wrist right now. So if you’re still hung up on green or even blue (tsk tsk) it is time to move on, because the signs are clear. Top brands in the luxury watch industry have begun doling out new models in this radiant hue.
But this colour is not actually completely new in timepieces. Salmon pink dials have been around for ages, but it wasn't really making waves because it was something that only the watch nerds cared for. It first came into public awareness when a selection of Patek Philippe watches owned by singer-songwriter Eric Clapton appeared on the auction block. Among them, a white gold Ref. 3970 with a pink dial stole the spotlight because of this unusual dial which was custom designed for Clapton.
Since then, the term salmon dial gainfully entered watch collecting parlance, joining such other peculiar names as panda dial, pie-pan dial, bubble back case, mushroom pushers, and etc.
So it was only very recently that salmon pink truly became the new dial colour du jour, it’s soaring popularity possibly triggered by Living Coral, Pantone’s 2019 colour of the year. A graceful hue that symbolises richness and vivacity, you can find it everywhere from fashion and beauty, to architecture and furniture, and now, our wrists.
Take a look at these gorgeous salmon dial luxury timepieces, several of which are already sold out or oversubscribed by eager collectors.
