The spring/summer 2020 womenswear show season has officially concluded. If you've been keeping up with our daily coverage of street style fashion from New York, London, Milan and Paris, you may have noticed—like we did—that the women have taken to suiting quite a bit this season. And as always, they look incredible all suited up.
At the autumn/winter 2019 menswear shows, it was evident that fashion designers were turning away from streetwear-inspired pieces. Tailoring took centrestage in the collections by fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, Fendi, Gucci and even Balenciaga. This was then followed by a spring/summer 2020 show season that further emphasised on the return of tailoring in menswear.
There's no better time than now to embrace suiting once again. Take reference from the way the street style set has managed to make suiting, well, suited for them. There's nothing wholly conventional in every look—it's almost always an oversized suit blazer but one that still cuts at the right point on the shoulder. Note how the suit is accessorised, what they're worn with, and even how they're styled. We love how some have opted to have the suit blazer tucked in (a look that's possible with lightweight and preferably unlined blazers) or even belted over to create a more defined waist.
The suit is not dead. And as these women prove, there's definitely more than one way to modernise it.
