Just like in 2021, Gucci is starting the new year strong with its first collaboration of 2022. Chapter two of The North Face x Gucci is set to be pretty much what you'd expect from the duo—practical technical gear imbued with the eclectic sense of luxury that Gucci has become known for.
The campaign images—shot by French photography duo Jalan and Jibril Durimel—capture a spirit of exploration that's a continuing theme from the first The North Face x Gucci collection. While that particular campaign and collection was rather '70s in execution and aesthetics, chapter two seeks to venture into more idyllic notions of exploration (in whatever forms they may be) against the dream-like landscapes of Iceland.
The collection is as extensive (if not more) than the first
The North Face x Gucci chapter two is quite a tour de force of The North Face classics with some Gucci signatures. The collection comprises of both men's and women's (effectively cross-category) options across ready-to-wear, accessories, luggage, and shoes. Gucci icons such as the Jackie 1961 and the Horsebit 1955 bags are also given a special collaborative treatment in the form of a black-and-red GG monogram pattern finished with burnt orange leather trims.
A bulk of the collection—and pretty much the raison d'être of the collaboration—is the outerwear. Pieces from The North Face's very own archives are remixed with the GG monogram, and when they're not, they're adorned with prints that are at times inspired by Gucci's vocabulary of prints. But most importantly, they're constructed to function well against the elements. While some of the styles are taken from the '70s and '90s, they're then packed with current proprietary technologies by The North Face.
There's an emphasis on eco-sustainable elements
ECONYL is a big partner in ensuring that the technical elements in the collection are as sustainably produced as they can be. Instead of regular nylon, the collection uses ECONYL—made from regenerated post-consumer nylon—that can also be recycled and easily recreated into new products without losing any properties and functionalities. In addition to that, 100 percent of the down used in the collection is certified to the Responsible Down Standard by Control Union.
The North Face x Gucci chapter two is now available in all Gucci boutiques at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Paragon, and ION Orchard. A selection of pieces are also available on gucci.com.
