Tommy Hilfiger has a track record for championing diversity and inclusivity. And with collections done in collaborations with A-list celebrities the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Zendaya, and Gigi Hadid, the quintessential American brand has become a sort of purveyor of creative expression too.
In its latest initiative, Tommy Hilfiger brought together its multifaceted brand values for a design contest. The 'Together We Create' tote bag design contest was open to students from participating design institutions in Singapore, with the objective of designing a tote bag that's themed around 'togetherness'. While the look of the end results were important, participants were also judged on their creativity as a whole—from ideation to production.
Three distinct designs made the cut at the end of the contest. 'Faces' by Yin Xinyi symbolises collaboration through the coming together of different faces to form a new whole, while 'United' by Charis Teong references some of the troubles that have been plaguing the world and how positive change can be effected by us uniting. The final winning entry is 'One Stringer' by Evania Jocelin. The yarn-inspired design represents the need to be strong in the face of adversity, especially with regards to the global pandemic.
Each designer was awarded a prize of SGD800. And their designs (printed on 100 percent organic cotton tote bags) are now available for purchase at Tommy Hilfiger stores in ION Orchard, Raffles City and VivoCity. Most importantly, proceeds from the sale of the tote bags will go towards helping the Save The Children 'Save Our Education' COVID-19 relief efforts.
