Change is a constant. And it's especially true for a brand like Tommy Hilfiger, that has its roots steeped in Americana and preppy menswear. The brand's signature offerings of button-down shirts, smart chinos and collegiate blazers were the definition of classic American fashion.
But that's not all that Tommy Hilfiger is known for. It was in the '90s that the brand became big among the hip hop set—stars like Snoop Dogg, Usher and Aaliyah took to the brand's aesthetic and made it their own. Tommy Hilfiger's instantly recognisable red-blue-and-white emblem became synonymous with hip hop and rap culture, and in turn, the designs expanded to skew towards more streetwear; especially during a time where white designers didn't necessarily embrace or design for people of colour.
Fast-forward to 2020 and Tommy Hilfiger is now at its fourth collaboration with Lewis Hamilton. Referencing the Formula One World Champion's streetwear-leaning aesthetic, TommyxLewis has consistently put out designs combining that with traditional menswear tropes, and at the same time, elevating it's own streetwear-inspired designs that it had developed back in the '90s.
What's emphasised even more for the spring 2020 edition, is the idea that fashion should be inclusive—a belief that the Tommy Hilfiger brand has always held to. This 'Style For All' philosophy exemplifies what Tommy x Lewis is all about: great style shouldn't be boxed in. No matter your race, gender identity, age and body type, style is individualistic in nature.
There's no set rules to how TommyxLewis should be worn. Nor is there a certain specification to who can wear Tommy x Lewis. These are clothes designed by Tommy Hilfiger and Lewis Hamilton but meant to be interpreted by you.
Be free, change the confines that's been set, and step out of that box.
The Tommy x Lewis spring 2020 collection is now available at all Tommy Hilfiger stores.
