Ahead of America (and other parts of the world), the rebooted Mortal Kombat still has that old-as-time narrative of the fate of the world as the ante in an interdimensional pugilist competition. The difference now is a mostly Asian cast, better acting and effects, as well as the video game's fatalities being shown on the big screen.
Starring Lewis Tan as Cole Young, an apparently new character created for the movie, who is drawn into the battle to defend Earth against the forces from Outworld. The film has your video game favourites like Liu Kang (played by Ludi Lin); Kung Lao (Max Huang); Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada); Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee); Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) and Shang Tsung (played by local-boy-made-good, Chin Han).
For those who are interested, here's a short featurette about the cast. Consider this as an amuse-bouche for the main course ahead.
Mortal Kombat is now out in theatres.
