If you've stuck around for the end credits of The Suicide Squad, you'd see that Peacemaker (played with aplomb by John Cena) survived the mission. And it looks like he'll be 'achieving peace at any cost' in a TV series on HBO Go. Called Peacemaker (duh), the eight-parter series was conceived by director and writer, James Gunn, when he was doing post-production on The Suicide Squad during the pandemic.
Some of the cast from The Suicide Squad joins Cena in Peacemaker like Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland but we'll see a few new additions to the series: Danielle Brooks is Leota Adebayo, who is the rookie to the team and harbours a secret of her own; Robert Patrick plays Peacemaker's father; Chukwudi Iwuji is the no-nonsense Clemson Murn; Freddie Stroma is another supe on the scene called Vigilante and… Eagly. Peacemaker's… uh, sidekick? An aptly named pet bald eagle? Whatever its role, the bird is a definite presence in the series.
From the latest trailer, this has all the Gunn traits—edgy humour; father-son issues; a douchebag superhero; violence; a killer soundtrack—Peacemaker looks set to kick things off in the new year.
Peacemaker debuts January 17 on HBO Go.
