Reunion dinners shouldn't be without drinks. Especially for the Lunar New Year. The presence of liquid spirits allows diners to make merry while catching up over conversations and food. Instead of contributing a nondescript liquor, offer the host or family a meaningful bottle that encapsulates the joyous season with Glenfiddich Chinese New Year special edition gift packs.
Featuring designs created by up-and-coming Chinese illustrator Rlon Wang, the limited edition imaginative bottles are the second in a series of three Chinese New Year special edition packs that started since 2020. The 2021 bottle tells a magical story of ‘The Great Homecoming’, inspired by the inimitable feeling of returning home to family for Chinese New Year.
Here's a recap. The 2020 bottle sees Wang reimagining the royal stag icon and the century-old epic journey of Charles Gordon (son-in-law of Glenfiddich founder William Grant) where he embarked for Asia with a few cases of whisky and a dream to bring the Speyside Scotch whisky to the world.
On the 2021 bottle, the story continues from the successful expedition. Its illustration depicts Gordon's triumphant return home to Scotland a year later, having won the hearts of whisky lovers across Asia. Known for his research in traditional Chinese painting, Wang’s unique designs marry visual elements from the East and West.
Using multi-layered illustrations, he tells a rich story created especially for Glenfiddich. Focus is on the majestic stag with its auspicious symbolism of long-life and prosperity. Set in a dynamic scene of people making their journey home by road, rail, air and sea, the narrative impresses with vibrant colour and thoughtful detail. Dancing lions and whisky-carrying birds heighten the festive statement piece.
Wang says: “I wanted to tell a story that evokes the warmth and excitement of Lunar New Year—the irreplaceable feeling and anticipation of finally coming home to loved ones. Inspired by the Glenfiddich spirit of experimentation and adventure, I created an illustration that comes alive with symbols of generations old and new. I loved playing with the symbiosis of Chinese and Scottish cultures —two connected countries on opposite sides of the world.”
The Chinese New Year design is available with the Glenfiddich Reserva Rum Cask 21 Year Old—a refined whisky finished in Caribbean rum casks for spicy warmth and hint of toffee sweetness. Also available are the 12, 15 and 18 Year Old Malt Whisky variants.
The Glenfiddich CNY packs are available for purchase on the William Grant & Sons flagship store on LazMall or The 1887 Bar via GrabFood, as well as other authorised retailers.
