For the first time, we're seeing the three main international fashion weeks—London, Paris and Milan—going digital. London has completed its first London Fashion Week Digital and we're less than a week away from Paris Fashion Week online before closing off the menswear show season with Milan Digital Fashion Week.
French luxury maison Hermès is kicking things off ahead of the official schedule with a live showing of its spring/summer 2021 menswear collection. Designed by artistic director Véronique Nichanian, the live global event is set to be accompanied by a live artistic performance conceptualised in collaboration with French director Cyril Teste.
As the co-founder of creative group Collectif MxM, Teste—together with light designer Julien Boizard and composer Nihil Bordures—has been experimenting with filmic performance. What that entails is, quite literally, doing everything a traditional film production normally does but in real-time and in front of an audience. Little is known about how that will be applied to Hermès' spring/summer 2021 menswear show, but whatever and however it may be done, it already promises to be something completely unexpected coming from the storied maison.
