Truth be told, it comes as no surprise that Hublot would turn out to be the world’s first luxury brand to accept Bitcoin. This ultra-progressive watch company has established partnerships with nearly every other industry: Fashion, motorsports, football, art, music and entertainment, haute cuisine, hotels and resorts… you name it. Now it adds the digital world to its portfolio of partners by introducing the new Big Bang Meca-10 P2P Limited Edition.
Celebrating the 10thanniversary of the creation of Bitcoin, Hublot has worked with Asia’s leading digital asset brokerage firm, OS Limited, to produce a 210-piece limited edition Big Bang Meca-10. Dedicated to the peer-to-peer payment system, also known as P2P, this new timepiece is available for purchase exclusively online and paid for with the cryptocurrency. Finally, something tangible you can dip into your Bitcoin stash for.
Why is it limited only to 210 pieces though? Because it is a reference to the global limit of Bitcoins, fixed at 21 million. Stylistically, the Big Bang Meca-10 P2P Limited Edition remains technically progressive, evoking elements of the digital world even though it is completely mechanical. Its 45mm case comes in microblasted high-tech black ceramic (zirconium dioxide) which is highly scratch resistant.
The HUB1201 manufacture movement is skeletonised and offers a 10-day power reserve, 10 to mark the number of years that Bitcoin has been on the market. Each of the 210 pieces is unique: Manufactured for its wearer bearing the identification number of the transaction made via Bitcoin. Another reference to the cryptocurrency can be found in the Blockchain inspired design of the blue calfskin leather strap which is lined with black rubber.
The Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 P2P Limited Edition is available for purchase exclusively online via a unique payment system that enables Hublot to accept payment in Bitcoin. Its price has yet to be fixed, but you can register online for more information.
