I'm not even going to pretend I knew what Keto was. I first heard about it back in training days some seven years ago but I thought it was a fad diet like say, organic food, until my ignorant ass found out about its involvement in the diabetic community, the lactose-intolerant, and the unfortunate egg-allergic.
Currently, this popular diet is widely adopted as a means to lose weight. Which also means I wasn't totally wrong, but back to the point. As a diet, it's a little more complicated than your standard starvation ones. You basically train your body into a state of ketosis by replacing carbohydrates with fats, so that it breaks down fats and produces ketones to keep you going with a lower chance of burnout.
No carbs means giving up a lot of desserts, which for the sweet-toothed can be a sacrifice. Thankfully, there are increasingly more bakeries that do a lot more than just cakes, so you can allow yourself some indulgences. Even if you're not on the diet, these alternatives are worth checking out.
Kekito Bakery
This Japanese-inspired keto-compliant bakery ensures its bakes verified by qualified nutritionists and even offers nut-free and eggless options too. The gluten-free and flourless cakes makes indulging in desserts guilt-free, but that's not to say flavour is compromised. The Matcha Cheesecake is easily addictive, while the Dark Chocolate Rare Cheesecake hardly tastes like a healthy option with its rich, mousse-like texture.
Kekito Bakery is located at Mahota Kitchen; Kitchener Complex Level 3, Singapore 200802 and Century Square #01-11, Singapore 529509.

Here's another wholly ketogenic online bakery taking to the streets. Everything baked at Seriously Keto is rich in short-chain fatty acids AKA good guy fats that are not stored in our fat cells but burned. Carb count is low, and only natural plant-based sugars are used instead of refined sugar. Meaning sweetness is retained without the side effect of sudden blood sugar spikes or weight gain that comes with zero-calorie subsitutes.
Besides impressive keto cupcakes and pretzels, the bakery even has their own range of keto chillis. Plus, in collaboration with The Butcher's Kitchen, they've unveiled four types of ketogenic burgers earlier this year—Beef, Pork, Roast Pork and Chicken. There's even a Keto Breakfast Set in likeness of the traditional kaya toast and eggs complete with keto spreads.
Seriously Keto is located at 32 Seah Street, Singapore 188388. The Butcher's Kitchen is located at Suntec City Mall Tower 2 #02-472, Singapore 038983.
