The first question would clearly be: What is GLASS SKIN? Followed by: How has your face been since the injection of salmon sperm? Well, robust and evidently not daunted to try lasers this time. To answer the more important question– GLASS SKIN, like its name, implies not just a clear complexion, but illuminated, translucent, and practically poreless skin. The treatment primarily uses lasers to achieve its results by vaporising damaged skin cells at surface-level and prompting cell rejuvenation.
There’s something Kubrickan about the narrow corridors, whitewashed walls, and clinical rooms with red buzzlights above each door. Not to mention the NEMO mask chairs in the waiting area. If anything, the purely functional interior reflects the no-nonsense procedure.
After cleansing, you are ushered into the doctor’s room where the treatment starts after a quick evaluation. You will feel slight irritation (think tiny ant bites) on areas with discolouration. The Q-switch laser only sounds scarier than it feels. This is followed by Scrubbing, a carefully guided glowing warmth.
Oh and blinding light pulses. Your eyes are closed and protected by cover, but it somehow appears how I picture epilepsy to look like. If you opt to have visible veins removed (apparently a popular choice for those who think decent skin is not enough) for a true flawless skin effect, the intensity is naturally stronger and you will smell something burnt at the end (dead skin cells and fine hair, I’m told).
While you don’t quite get the translucency of the skin as imagined, there are two immediate outcomes. The skin will appear a shade brighter, with marks and especially pigmentation noticeably gone. The latter holds a lasting result, but the optimal number of sessions are four with a month span between each.
Considering the short duration for the treatment at under an hour with zero downtime, it’s an efficient way to even out the skin and remove blemishes you would otherwise be unable to or require a significantly longer time to.
