It's almost summer again—in most parts of the world anyway—and Spanish fashion house Loewe is serving up some Ibizan heat for the second time. Loewe continues its collaboration with Paula's, the it-boutique of the '70s founded in Ibiza, and heavily incorporates original prints by Paula's into the ready-to-wear, accessories and shoes for the capsule collection. The vibe is still that familiar bohemian spirit which creative director Jonathan Anderson has imbued into Loewe since taking creative helm. But, of course, features some rather peculiar items. Take for example the sequinned shorts that will set you back SGD1,150.
It's undoubtedly a beautiful piece that a Loewe or Jonathan Anderson fan would cop. But seeing how this entire collection is pretty much a beach-ready summer collection, it's quite difficult to imagine wearing this at the beach. The design is clever: the mermaid print formed by scale-like sequins is only on the front half so you won't get poked in the rear when you lounge by the water. At SGD1,150 though, this is one pair we'd wear and stay a good three metres away from any body of water.
To get a sense of what SGD1,150 would cost you, we list down five items (and how many of them you can splurge on) that could very well be a wiser/better spend.
Find out what else we've last saved you from spending too much money on.
One Paula Puzzle Flat Pouch by Loewe (SGD1,150 each)
It's a zipped pouch from the same collection that you don't have to dry-clean and will definitely have more use for. If you want a piece of the new Loewe Paula's Ibiza collection (and have $1,150 to spare), this is it; no-brainer, folks.
Three pairs of printed swim shorts by Orlebar Brown (approximately SGD300 each via MATCHESFASHION.COM)
Thankfully, shorts you can swim in. Orlebar Brown's known for their photorealistic prints but this particular design looks almost like it was painted on. But please, spare the attempts at bird-related pickup lines.
Five pairs of Nike Air Max 1 Premium Retro sneakers (SGD229 via Dover Street Market Singapore)
There's always a new sneaker drop almost every week. Just like the sequinned shorts, this pair of throwback sneakers are not made for the beach either. But it's one of Nike's latest drops so… you decide.
15 printed T-shirts by Holiday Boileau (approximately SGD75 via Mr Porter)
Even if you've got no plans for a summer holiday this year, getting a Holiday Boileau T-shirt might just get you into the right mood to relax and chill. Or at least, a reminder to book that last-minute ticket to Bali.
17 copies of Life is Ibiza: People Houses Life by Anne Poelmans (SGD65.78 via Book Depository)
If you can't go to Ibiza (or would rather not buy a pair of sequinned shorts), make Ibiza come to you. And then use the images in the book for some home interior inspirations.
