We've been saying it for a while now: small bags for men are where it's at. It's not that regular-sized bags are totally out of style. But rather, for some unfathomable reason—it's probably that we're just slow to catch on to new ideas—we're only now realising that small bags are practical too. For those days when all you need is your phone in hand, your credit cards (who carries around cash anymore these days?), your keys, and your Apple AirPods, a small bag is pretty nifty.
Men's artistic director for Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh, clearly knows this. One of his more impressive bags for the fashion house, is the Soft Trunk; a canvas version of the Petite Malle that measures 25cm by 18cm.
For Abloh's first pre-collection for Louis Vuitton, the Chalk bag has gone through his '3%' design methodology. The Chalk Nano Bag is still pretty much inspired by chalk bags used by climbers, but the pre-autumn/winter collection's iteration is smaller and takes on a more rigid shape, yet still supple enough to be worn on the shoulder or across the body. And of course, Louis Vuitton's monogram pattern is distinctly covering the entire exterior of the bag.
Louis Vuitton's Chalk Nano Bag in Monogram Brown Logos, is the only iteration of the bag that will be exclusively available in Singapore and Thailand. This is an exclusive drop that's worth the price.
But if you're looking for other options of small bags to get in on the movement, here are some other ways you could use the SGD2,190 towards.
0.94 Saffiano leather Brique bag by Prada (SGD2,330 each)
This is pretty much everyone's favourite bag from Prada's spring/summer 2019 collection. Small, compact, and looks like a mini briefcase—what's not to love?
1.74 leather multi-functional cases by Bottega Veneta (SGD1,260 each)
This is reminiscent of an even smaller version of camera bags. Measuring a mere 19cm by 9cm, Bottega Veneta's multi-functional case is really designed for those quick jaunts around the city.
Two leather half-moon crossbody bags by Alexander McQueen (approximately SGD1,060 via MatchesFashion.com)
A flatter version of a bum bag, Alexander McQueen's version is designed to stay flat when worn across the body. It helps to that details are kept to the minimum, and easily worn with almost any outfit combination.
Three Paula Large Heel Pouches by Loewe (SGD690 each)
To be honest, you could probably just fit in a few cards (there are some card slots available in the pouch) and maybe a set of keys. But what else would you need these days?
Six cotton and polyamide Le Minot pouches by Jacquemus (approximately SGD352 each)
You're probably familiar by now with Jacquemus penchant for small lanyard-esque accessories for men. This particular version looks more like a drawstring pouch than the leather wallet versions, which means that they can hold a bit more and are less precious.
