The Met Gala, the annual charity ball benefiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York, is pretty much another excuse for celebrities to dress up. But in high fashion and as intricately as humanly possible; it is for Costume Institute after all. This is the only time before Halloween that finding that tricky balance between looking ridiculous and brilliant, is essential.
Tickets for this year's Met Gala—themed around the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination exhibit—were priced at USD30,000 per head and USD275,000 per table. Which really is a wonder why, at that hefty a price tag for entry, there are celebrities that turned up looking nothing remotely heavenly. Must be there for the food and entertainment, we reckon?
The Gods, They’re Laughing Because WTF?
Truth be told, most that fall into this category took the theme to heart. And while not all risks pan out as hoped, at least they can't be blamed for being safe and boring.
Paid And Was There To Eat
It's usually the men who play it safe and fall back into the traditional black tie ensemble. The theme this year is especially tough for those who don't fancy embellishments and trimmings. But if the usually very subtle Trevor Noah gave it a go—we're plesantly surprised—there shouldn't be any excuse.
High Praises
The ones who made carefully thought out style moves in accordance to the theme, were mighty in the end. There were tasteful homages and breathtaking surprises that all managed to impress.
