There's a rule in magic: never show the same trick twice; you can fool your audience once but on the second round, they will be ready to spot that secret move.
Which is why we're stymied that there would be a follow-up to Sacha Baron Cohen's 2006 film, Borat, or as the diehard fans are more familiar with, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.
I mean, that film came out 14 years ago. Surely, people know that Borat Sagdiyev is the fictional character of Cohen, right? People still remember that immortal line, "my wife" (it's a testament to the film's lingering popularity that you read that quote in that voice). Hell, who could forget this?
I don't know how they managed to keep this under wraps for this long. When I read about someone spotting Cohen playing Borat, I thought they were still filming and that the movie will be out next year.
Uh, no. Against all odds, Borat 2, or as hardcore fans will know it as, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, will be released on Amazon Prime, October 23.
As you can tell by the trailer, Borat returns to America to present his daughter as a bride for Michael Penis- sorry, Mike Pence. A lot of people, whom I assume, do not have the Internet, are fooled. Will Azamat Bagatov (played by Ken Davitian) make a cameo appearance? Will Luenell?
We'll find out later in the month but what we're sure of is that there are people on God's green earth who do not know anything about Borat. Well, after this film's release, they, sure as hell, won't forget him anytime soon.
